Among them is Ka Ruben, a former squad leader of Guerilla Front 55, which operated in Bukidnon. He vowed to leave behind the chaos of his past and embrace a peaceful life.

“I will change myself. I will live peacefully… I am now with the legitimate government,” Ka Ruben affirmed.

Ka Ruben is one of 27 FRs warmly received by Governor Edwin “Kuya Gov” Jubahib this afternoon at the VIP Clubhouse, Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex.

The presentation of the FRs was led by 1003rd Brigade Commander BGen. Marion Angcao. Governor Jubahib emphasized that the event highlights the province’s ongoing efforts to remain insurgency-free and achieve genuine peace and development for Indigenous Peoples (IPs).

As part of their surrender, the FRs turned over 20 high-powered firearms and seven small arms.

“We deeply appreciate your voluntary surrender of your firearms. This shows your resolve to leave behind the conflict you experienced in the past,” Governor Jubahib said.

The governor added that the surrendered firearms have corresponding monetary values, amounting to over ₱50,000 each, depending on their appraised value.

While awaiting benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte provided initial assistance of ₱10,000 and food packs. Additional aid from other government agencies will also be extended.

The event was attended by key officials, including 56th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Ali Sumangil, Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office (DNPPO) Commander PCol. Alexander Serrano, DILG Provincial Director Jonathan Leybag, and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rosalinda Rapista.

Governor Jubahib reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and fostering development in the province, paving the way for a better future for former rebels and the communities they now serve.
