In an effort to strengthen collaborations with the academic sector, the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP), commonly known as the Davao Bus Project, hosted an event titled “Biyahe Ta, Bai: Shaping Smarter Transport for Davao City.” Held on November 28, 2024, the gathering aimed to explore the role of academia in shaping sustainable and efficient urban transport systems.
The event welcomed representatives from 11 institutions, including universities and state universities and colleges (SUCs) within Davao City. The initiative highlighted the critical role of academic research, innovation, and expertise in addressing the challenges of urban mobility and sustainability.
DPTMP representatives emphasized the importance of partnerships with the academic sector in fostering research and development that aligns with the goals of the Davao Bus Project. The collaboration seeks to enhance the city’s public transportation network by integrating advanced technologies, promoting environmentally friendly practices, and ensuring accessibility for all.
Through discussions and brainstorming sessions, participants explored opportunities for academic involvement in the project. Topics included designing smart transport systems, optimizing routes, and addressing the social and economic impacts of modernizing public transport.
