SM City Mindpro, CENRO, and MASEPLA Unite for Coastal Cleanup in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The picturesque shores of Mampang received a much-needed cleanup as nearly 100 volunteers gathered for a coastal cleanup organized by SM City Mindpro, in collaboration with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) – Zamboanga City and the Mampang Seaweeds Planters Association (MASEPLA). The event, held early in the morning, emphasized collective action in reducing marine pollution and promoting environmental stewardship.

Volunteers collected 210 kilograms of waste, primarily plastic bottles, packaging materials, and other non-biodegradable debris. The cleanup underscored the growing need for community-driven efforts to mitigate the detrimental effects of waste on marine ecosystems.

Engr. Rommel Bellen, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Mindpro, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “This coastal cleanup is a testament to our commitment to protecting our natural resources and engaging our community to be part of the solution. Through collective action, we hope to inspire more people to take an active role in preserving our coastlines for future generations.”

The event is part of SM City Mindpro’s broader sustainability and environmental responsibility efforts. It reflects their dedication to fostering eco-consciousness in Zamboanga City, a commitment that resonates with the increasing global emphasis on environmental conservation.

MASEPLA President Susan Gonzales expressed her gratitude for the partnership, noting the importance of collaboration in preserving the local marine environment. “Our shores are our lifeline, not just for seaweed farmers but for the entire community. Clean waters mean healthier livelihoods and a better future for all,” she remarked.

Beyond the immediate environmental benefits, the cleanup served as an educational opportunity for participants. Volunteers learned about the impacts of plastic waste on marine life and the importance of sustainable practices to protect these vital ecosystems.

This initiative is just one of many environmental campaigns spearheaded by SM City Mindpro in Zamboanga City. By teaming up with local organizations and communities, they continue to inspire action and raise awareness about the urgent need to protect the environment.

As Zamboanga City grapples with environmental challenges, events like this demonstrate the power of community partnerships in creating tangible, positive change. With sustained efforts and collective commitment, there is hope for cleaner shores and healthier oceans for generations to come.
