Davao Oriental, Philippines – November 22, 2024
The campaign against illegal drugs in Davao Oriental gained momentum during the successful 4th Quarter Meeting of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), held at the Capitol Grand Conference Room. The event, led by Governor Niño Uy, focused on enhancing initiatives to ensure the safety and orderliness of the province.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), 180 barangays in the province have been declared and maintained as drug-free. However, three barangays remain under ongoing clearing operations aimed at achieving full drug-cleared status.
Despite the rising number of drug-related cases nationwide, Davao Oriental’s PADAC remains 100% highly functional. This is attributed to strong coordination and proactive measures aimed at mitigating the impact of illegal drugs on the community.
New Strategies and Initiatives
During the meeting, council members exchanged ideas on more effective methods to strengthen the anti-drug campaign. Among the highlighted initiatives were the installation of posters and signages, implementation of a reward system, and increasing public awareness about the dangers of illegal drugs.
Governor Uy emphasized the importance of collaboration with community leaders, organizations, and schools. He underscored the role of community forums, outreach activities, and awareness campaigns in educating residents about the harmful effects of illegal drugs on individuals, families, and society.
“This is not just a government campaign; it’s a movement for the entire community. Everyone’s active participation is crucial for our success,” Governor Uy stated.
Gratitude and Call for Continued Support
In his address, Governor Uy commended PADAC members for their unwavering support and dedication. He stressed the need to strengthen rehabilitation, reformation, and after-care programs to help individuals recovering from drug addiction reintegrate into society.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the participating agencies, including the DILG, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office (DOPPO), the Philippine Army, and various civil society organizations, for their active involvement.
Sustained Collaboration for a Drug-Free Future
Through PADAC, the collaboration between local stakeholders and the government continues to thrive, ensuring the success of strategies against illegal drugs. The ultimate goal: a drug-free Davao Oriental that paves the way for a brighter future for all.
