Davao City, Philippines – November 1, 2024
In a proactive step to uphold integrity and professionalism within its ranks, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), led by Acting City Director PCOL Hansel M. Marantan, carried out a surprise drug test on the personnel of its Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU). The unannounced screening took place on October 31, 2024, at 1:30 PM, inside the Sandigan Hall at the DCPO Main Building.
The random drug test was facilitated by PLTCOL Florepes Pallado of the Davao City Forensic Unit (DCFU) and included 306 DEU personnel. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the DCPO to maintain a drug-free, transparent, and accountable law enforcement environment, reinforcing public confidence in its operations.
In a statement following the screening, DCPO confirmed that all tested personnel returned negative results, affirming that none of the DEU members had used illegal substances. This outcome highlights DCPO’s commitment to stringent ethical standards within its force.
“We are committed to ensuring that all members of the DEU are not only performing their duties with excellence but also maintaining the highest ethical standards, both on and off duty,” PCOL Marantan stated. “This initiative is part of our continuous effort to promote a clean and effective police force.”
The DCPO has made it clear that its mission to combat illegal drugs in the region goes hand in hand with ensuring its own personnel adhere to the same standards they are sworn to uphold. By implementing unannounced drug testing, the DCPO demonstrates its commitment to fostering a reliable, professional, and transparent police force that the public can trust.
The initiative is one of many that DCPO is expected to continue, reinforcing the importance of accountability and integrity in law enforcement as it addresses the region’s anti-drug efforts.
