Mayor John Dalipe met with an eight-man delegation from Malaysia to discuss potential areas of collaboration between Malaysia and the Philippines under the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Human Resource Development Programs. The Malaysian delegation paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Dalipe in City Hall on October 10, during their trip to the Philippines aimed at strengthening the BIMP-EAGA TVET programs.
The delegation was composed of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED), and Sarawak Skills. The meeting was described as a “valuable opportunity to foster closer ties between Zamboanga City and Sarawak, Malaysia, as well as explore mutually beneficial partnerships in TVET.”
Zamboanga City is known as the gateway to BIMP-EAGA due to its close proximity to Sabah, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia. This strategic location positions the city as a key player in regional cooperation and development initiatives. The visit underscores the ongoing efforts to build strong regional partnerships and enhance educational and vocational training opportunities across the BIMP-EAGA region.
