Cotabato City – Several areas in Cotabato City are currently experiencing significant flooding due to heavy rainfall brought on by Typhoon Leon, which struck early this week.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), while the typhoon does not have a direct impact on the Bangsamoro region, it has contributed to severe weather conditions, resulting in heavy rains, thunder, and lightning.
As of the latest update, PAGASA is monitoring the movement of the typhoon, which was last located 1,195 kilometers east of Central Luzon. The storm is currently packing winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour. There is potential for the typhoon to intensify further and reach the severe tropical storm category.
In Cotabato City, Barangay Kalilintad and the surrounding areas are particularly affected, with many homes and streets submerged. Local authorities are assessing the situation and urging residents to remain vigilant as conditions may worsen with ongoing rainfall.
Emergency response teams are on standby to assist those impacted by the floods. Residents are encouraged to follow safety protocols and stay updated through official channels.
