Community Unites to Commemorate Marawi Liberation with Tree Planting in Maguing

In celebration of the 7th anniversary of the Marawi Liberation, local government units and community organizations came together this morning, October 17, for a tree-planting event in Dilimbayan, Maguing. This meaningful initiative, led by Forester Pili M. Papandayan from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, aimed to restore the once-deforested area while promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

The tree-planting activity was part of the “Plant and Grow for Peace Program,” where community members planted fruit-bearing trees such as Durian and Lanzones. This effort not only addresses the pressing need to combat climate change but also seeks to enhance local food production, providing nourishment and hope to the community.

The event demonstrated a strong spirit of collaboration, with representatives from various provincial offices of Lanao del Sur, including the Provincial Information Office, Provincial Gender and Development Office, Peace and Development Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Lanao’s People Park & Public Library, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Their participation highlighted a shared commitment to rebuilding the region and fostering unity.

Key partners of the provincial government, such as the 103rd Brigade and the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office, also extended their support. They were joined by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, and local government units from Maguing, all working together to ensure the success of the event.

Forester Papandayan expressed gratitude to the community and partners for their involvement, saying, “We extend our sincere thanks to all our partners and returning friends for their invaluable support, which made this event a success.” The initiative symbolizes not just environmental restoration but also strengthens community bonds and reinforces the collective commitment to peace and sustainability in Lanao del Sur.

As the trees are planted, so too are the hopes and dreams of the community, fostering not only a greener environment but also a stronger sense of unity and shared purpose in their journey toward a brighter future.
