Norala, South Cotabato, September 26, 2024 — A 57-year-old farmer was arrested following the issuance of a search warrant for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act,” in Purok Liberty, Barangay Esperanza, Norala, South Cotabato.
Police Brigadier General James E. Gulmatico, Officer-in-Charge of Police Regional Office 12, identified the suspect as “Ren,” a local farmer and resident of the area.
Authorities from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 12 South Cotabato Provincial Field Unit, along with the Norala Municipal Police Station, conducted the operation at around 8:30 a.m., successfully arresting the suspect. The operation was carried out under a valid search warrant issued for violations of RA 10591.
During the search, authorities seized an unregistered homemade 12-gauge shotgun, a Colt Government Model .45 caliber pistol with serial number 388099, three live shotgun rounds, and a magazine for the .45 caliber pistol.
The suspect now faces charges for violating Section 28 of RA 10591, as well as Section 1 of RA 9516, which carries penalties of reclusion perpetua under Presidential Decree 1866, regarding the illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Police Brig. Gen. Gulmatico emphasized that the successful arrest reflects the effectiveness of law enforcement operations in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure peace and order across the country.
“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to public service and the mission of building a safer, more progressive, and peaceful nation for all under the vision of the New Philippines,” Gulmatico said.
