Coast Guard Rescues Two After Boat Capsizes in Surigao City

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully rescued two individuals following the capsizing of a motorized pumpboat, MBCA ENOSSIAN, in the waters near Barangay Buenavista, Surigao City, on September 11, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 AM, shortly after the boat, which had departed from Barangay San Juan in Surigao City at around 6 AM, encountered rough sea conditions while navigating the waters between Basul and Hikdop Islands. The MBCA ENOSSIAN, carrying seven passengers and one boat captain, capsized due to the adverse weather conditions.

During the emergency, transiting boats were able to rescue six of the passengers. The PCG responded promptly and conducted a successful rescue operation, retrieving the boat captain and the seventh passenger.

All rescued individuals were reported to be in good physical health following the incident. The swift response from the PCG and the cooperation of nearby vessels were crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of those involved in the capsizing.

This incident highlights the importance of maritime safety and the readiness of local and national agencies to respond to maritime emergencies promptly.
