Cotabato City — In yet another alarming blow to the city’s battle against illegal drugs, four individuals — including a minor — were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier this morning in Barangay RH-5, Cotabato City.

According to initial police reports, the operatives were able to confiscate an estimated 300 grams of suspected shabu, with a street value pegged at around ₱2,040,000. The suspects were caught red-handed during the operation, highlighting the persistent and deeply rooted drug problem that continues to threaten the safety of local communities.

Authorities expressed deep concern over the involvement of a minor in the illegal drug trade, pointing to the growing trend of criminal groups exploiting the youth for illicit activities. This case has added to the rising number of minors being used as couriers or active participants in drug transactions — a trend that law enforcement agencies and child welfare groups find both alarming and heartbreaking.

“This is not just a police matter; this is a social issue that needs the attention of families, schools, and the entire community. The fact that minors are being drawn into this illegal trade is a clear sign that drug syndicates are becoming more aggressive and desperate,” a police spokesperson stated.

The suspects are now in police custody and will face appropriate charges, while the minor will be turned over to social welfare authorities for proper intervention and guidance.

The PNP has vowed to intensify its anti-drug operations in Cotabato City and nearby areas, especially in light of increasing cases involving minors — an issue that underscores the urgent need for strengthened community vigilance and support systems to shield young people from the lure of illegal drugs.
