April 10, 2025 – Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte — The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) officially turned over the newly constructed “Dipolog Double A Slaughterhouse” to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Dipolog City in a ceremony held today in Barangay Lugdungan.

The turnover ceremony was led by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IX, headed by Regional Executive Director Engr. Marcos C. Aves Sr., represented by DA Regional Satellite Officer Mr. George Valiente. Representing NMIS was Regional Technical Director Dr. Roie-Lee N. Cataluña.

The facility, amounting to a total of ₱15.2 million, was jointly funded by NMIS and the Dipolog City Government, with each party contributing half of the budget. The slaughterhouse includes three major components: the Main Building, a Holding Facility, and a Sewerage Treatment Plant.

City Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy and Vice Mayor Senen O. Angeles led the city officials who attended the event, along with City Councilors Hon. Jonald C. Napigquit, Hon. Eduardo C. Baron, Hon. Maynard R. Baes, Hon. Romulo P. Soliva, and Hon. Reggie T. Uy. Also present were Barangay Captains Paterno S. Laclac of Lugdungan and Danilo C. Jebone of Dicayas, as well as department heads and other officials.

The Double A Slaughterhouse complies with NMIS guidelines and is capable of accommodating a large number of livestock, ensuring safe and hygienic meat processing. Its operation is expected to strengthen the local meat supply chain, ensuring a steady provision of safe and high-quality meat for consumers in the city and the rest of the province.

In his message, Mayor Uy described the project as a “milestone” in the modernization of the region’s meat industry. He emphasized that aside from promoting food safety, the facility will also open up employment opportunities for many Dipolognons.

“This is not just a facility—it is a step forward toward food security, economic growth, and a more progressive Dipolog,” Mayor Uy said.
