MARAWI CITY — Former Vice President Leni Robredo traveled to Marawi on Friday, January 3, to personally offer her condolences to the family of the late former Lanao del Sur Governor Soraya Bedjoria Alonto-Adiong.

Robredo shared details of her visit through a Facebook post, recounting the deep bond she had formed with Alonto-Adiong during her term as Vice President. “I flew to Cagayan de Oro today and traveled by land to Marawi to condole with the family of Former Lanao del Sur Governor Soraya Bedjoria Alonto-Adiong, with whom I developed a very close relationship when I was Vice President,” Robredo wrote.
The former governor, who passed away recently, was a respected political figure in the region. In 2022, Alonto-Adiong publicly referred to Robredo as “a friend of our family” and “like a daughter to me.” She fondly recalled that since 2016, Robredo had made it a point to visit her whenever she was in Marawi, fostering a warm and personal connection.
Robredo’s trip to Marawi highlights the enduring relationships she cultivated during her political career. Her gesture of traveling by land from Cagayan de Oro to Marawi underscores her commitment to paying her respects personally, despite the logistical challenges involved.
