Tupi, South Cotabato — A tragic accident struck the Maglente family as their L300 van overshot a curve and lost control in Purok Lote, Barangay Cebuano, Tupi, South Cotabato, around 3:00 PM on Monday, December 23, 2024. Seven family members were confirmed dead, while the driver survived with injuries.
Initial reports from the Tupi Municipal Police Station revealed that the van’s brakes reportedly failed while descending a steep section of the road, causing the vehicle to crash uncontrollably.
The victims, mostly residents of Polomolok, South Cotabato, were identified as:
- Annabelle Maglente, 52
- Joel Maglente
- Joan Maglente, 28
- Duke Maglente
- Ike Maglente
- Marga, 7
- Yuna, 8
The sole survivor, Joliver Maglente, the driver, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in a local hospital.
The family had been vacationing in Polomolok and had just visited a tourist spot in Magsangyaw when the tragedy occurred. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over the holiday season, as the Maglente family’s loved ones and community mourn the devastating loss.
