MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR — A dispute between two related families stemming from a shooting incident in Barangay Iganagampong, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur, has been peacefully settled following a dialogue and conflict resolution meeting held on November 6 in Barangay Bagong Upam, Shariff Aguak.

The peace settlement brought both sides together to discuss the allegations surrounding the shooting incident on October 25, 2026, giving each party an opportunity to present its account, clarify concerns, and address the accusations that had fueled tensions between the families.
The meeting was facilitated by the 118th Base Command in coordination with the PSRO-OCM BARMM Maguindanao del Sur Field Team as part of efforts to prevent the dispute from escalating into further violence and to maintain peace and stability in the affected communities.
During the dialogue, Ato Abdulkarim Karim categorically denied any involvement in the shooting. He voluntarily took an oath on the Holy Qur’an to affirm his denial, a religious undertaking that was administered in the presence of the facilitators and religious leaders. The complainants accepted his oath as part of the settlement process.
Following the discussions, both parties agreed to refrain from actions that could reignite hostilities and committed themselves to maintaining peaceful relations within their respective communities.
The settlement represents an effort to address a potentially escalating family dispute through dialogue, mutual understanding, and religious and community-based reconciliation rather than retaliation or violence.
While the agreement marks a positive step toward restoring peaceful relations, its long-term success will depend on both parties honoring their commitments and avoiding actions that could undermine the settlement.
The initiative also underscores the role of community dialogue and traditional reconciliation mechanisms in conflict prevention, particularly in areas where family disputes can threaten wider community security.
For Maguindanao del Sur, the peaceful resolution serves as a reminder that communication, trust-building, and a willingness to reconcile remain important tools in preventing isolated incidents from developing into prolonged conflicts.
