NABALAWAG, SGA, BARMM — One person was killed while another was wounded after they were shot by unidentified assailants along the Nabalawag-Maharlika Highway in Barangay Olandang, Nabalawag, Special Geographic Area (SGA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), on Tuesday morning, September 29, 2026.
The fatality was identified as Ebrahim Blah Madidis, who was declared dead at the scene. The other victim, Salindab Madidis, sustained gunshot wounds and was brought for medical attention.
According to the initial report from the Nabalawag Municipal Police Station (MPS), the incident occurred at around 7:03 a.m. while the two victims were standing beside the Nabalawag-Maharlika Highway, in front of their residence in Barangay Olandang.
Police said two unidentified suspects reportedly arrived on board a motorcycle and suddenly opened fire at the victims.
After the shooting, the suspects immediately fled the area aboard the motorcycle and escaped toward an undetermined direction.
The Nabalawag MPS has launched a hot pursuit operation as authorities work to establish the identities of the gunmen and determine their whereabouts. Investigators are also gathering additional information and evidence that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the shooting.
The incident comes amid reported tensions and armed encounters in parts of Nabalawag in recent days, prompting continued security monitoring in the area. The Nabalawag MPS, in coordination with military clearing teams, has intensified security monitoring to help prevent further incidents and maintain peace and order.
Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution, particularly in areas where security concerns have been reported.
Authorities are continuing to verify the circumstances of the shooting and determine whether the latest incident is connected to the recent tensions in the area.
