GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A 15-year-old Grade 8 student was injured after he was allegedly stabbed by an 18-year-old Grade 11 student inside Buayan National High School in Purok 1, Barangay Buayan, General Santos City, on Monday morning, September 7, 2026.
The incident, which occurred at around 8:50 a.m., prompted an immediate response from authorities following a call received through the 911 emergency hotline.
According to the initial police report, the younger student sustained wounds to the right side of his neck and right side of his abdomen.
The victim was immediately given medical attention and was brought to a medical facility by his adviser for further treatment. His condition was not immediately disclosed in the initial reports.
The alleged attacker was prevented from leaving the school by the school’s security guards, who turned him over to responding police officers.
Authorities reportedly recovered from the suspect a steel-made folding knife, or balisong, measuring approximately five inches, which police believe may have been used in the stabbing.
The suspect was brought to a police station for documentation and further investigation. Police said the suspect was informed of his rights in accordance with law.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what led to the confrontation and the possible motive.
As both individuals involved are learners and one is a minor, authorities and school officials are expected to observe applicable child-protection and due-process protocols as the investigation proceeds.
Schools Division assures support, safety measures
The Schools Division of General Santos City (SDO GenSan) expressed deep concern over the incident and said its immediate priority is the safety, welfare, and recovery of the injured learner.
In an official statement issued Monday, the division said the student was promptly provided first aid and brought to a medical facility for appropriate medical attention. The student’s parent or guardian was also immediately informed of the incident.
The division said it is coordinating closely with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other concerned agencies as authorities continue their investigation.
SDO GenSan also said it will implement appropriate child protection measures, guidance interventions, and psychosocial support for learners and school personnel affected by the incident.
The division emphasized that these interventions will be carried out while respecting due process and the confidentiality of everyone involved.
School officials are also closely monitoring the situation and strengthening the implementation of existing school safety and child protection policies, including coordination with parents, local government units, and law enforcement agencies.
The incident comes amid renewed concerns over violence in and around schools, underscoring the need for strengthened prevention, early intervention, and mechanisms that allow school authorities to immediately address conflicts involving learners.
However, authorities have yet to establish the complete circumstances behind Monday’s stabbing, and no definitive conclusion about the motive or events leading to the attack has been released.
The investigation remains ongoing, and any criminal or other appropriate case against the suspect will depend on the findings of authorities and applicable laws and child-protection procedures.
