KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — A 15-year-old boy was injured after a retired police officer allegedly fired a gun in Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay San Isidro, Koronadal City, South Cotabato, on Thursday morning, August 13, 2026.

The Koronadal City Police Office said the incident occurred at around 8:20 to 8:40 a.m., although the initial reports placed the time shortly after 9 a.m. Authorities identified the injured minor as alias “Brint,” 15, and a resident of the city.
The suspect was identified by police as Roel Eleydo Miguel, an adult, married, and a retired police officer who reportedly lives in the same area and is a neighbor of the victim’s family.
According to the police investigation, Brint was outside their residence with his father and was feeding their dog when they were startled by several gunshots.
The victim’s father then saw that his son had sustained injuries.
Police said the boy was not apparently hit directly by the bullets. Instead, he sustained injuries to different parts of his body from fragments that reportedly came from a concrete post that was struck by gunfire.
The injured teenager was immediately brought to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment.
Retired cop arrested
Responding Koronadal City police officers launched a hot-pursuit operation following the shooting and arrested Miguel, who was identified as the alleged shooter.
Police said they recovered several firearms and ammunition from the suspect, including one Armscor rifle, one Armscor .45-caliber pistol, a magazine, and eight live rounds of ammunition.
The circumstances that prompted the gunfire, including what led to the shooting and whether there was a prior confrontation involving the suspect and the victim’s family, remained under investigation.
Authorities have yet to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the discharge of the firearms.
Separate investigations are being conducted by the Koronadal City Police Office and the South Cotabato Forensic Unit of Regional Forensic Unit 12.
Police are expected to determine through the investigation and forensic examination which firearm was used in the shooting and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case may also be subject to further legal proceedings depending on the findings of investigators and the evidence gathered against the suspect.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the victim’s current medical condition, citing the ongoing investigation and the minor’s privacy.
