DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao del Norte — A tense situation unfolded along the boundary of Cotabato City and Datu Odin Sinsuat after a passenger of a white Toyota Town Ace allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the vehicle’s driver, prompting an immediate response from Marines manning a nearby checkpoint.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday in Barangay Tamontaka, Datu Odin Sinsuat.
Based on initial information, the suspect was riding inside the white Town Ace and was seated in the front passenger area when he allegedly pulled out an object resembling a handgun and pointed it toward the driver while the vehicle was moving.
The suspect allegedly cocked the imitation firearm, creating a potentially dangerous and frightening situation for the driver and other passengers inside the vehicle.
Fearing for his safety, the driver reportedly sought immediate assistance from Marines stationed at a checkpoint in the area.
The situation quickly escalated as responding personnel moved to secure the vehicle and confronted the suspect.
A video obtained from the incident showed authorities issuing repeated commands to the suspect as they worked to bring the situation under control. The passengers had already disembarked from the vehicle when the Marines arrived and intervened.
Authorities subsequently secured the area and arrested the suspect without further reported violence.
A search of the object allegedly used during the confrontation later revealed that it was not a real firearm but a plastic imitation gun.
Despite being a fake weapon, the object reportedly caused alarm because of its appearance and the suspect’s alleged actions toward the driver. Pointing an imitation firearm at another person can still trigger a serious security response, particularly in an area where authorities maintain checkpoints and remain vigilant against armed threats.
The suspect was taken into custody as authorities began documenting the incident and determining what led to the confrontation.
