DAVAO CITY – What began as an ordinary walk home from school turned into a violent attack after two high school students were allegedly ambushed and stabbed by a group of youths near the corner of Diamond Village in Damosa, Davao City, on Monday afternoon, July 6, 2026.
According to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. when the victims were walking home from school. Initial police investigation revealed that the students were suddenly approached, surrounded, and assaulted by a group of young individuals without warning.
During the attack, the victims were reportedly punched before being stabbed. One of the students sustained three stab wounds to the back, while the other suffered one stab wound. Both were immediately rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), where they received emergency medical treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the two students are now in stable condition.
Responding personnel from the Sasa Police Station (Police Station 4) immediately launched a follow-up operation in San Jose, Buhangin, which resulted in the apprehension of six minors allegedly involved in the attack.
Police said the victims positively identified the group’s alleged leader, known only by the alias “Justin.” Authorities also recovered a Swiss knife, believed to have been used during the stabbing, after it was allegedly turned over by the suspect during the operation.
The six minors are currently under police custody while investigators continue to determine the motive behind the assault. The case will be processed in accordance with the provisions of the law governing Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
Meanwhile, school officials clarified reports circulating online regarding the location of the incident.
Romeo Ticar, school head of the school attended by the victims in Barangay Aliongto, Buhangin District, emphasized that the stabbing did not occur inside the school premises but instead happened at the corner of Diamond Village after classes had ended.
Ticar also clarified that while the two victims are students of the school, the alleged attackers are not enrolled in their institution. He said the school is working closely with the victims’ families and the police to determine the circumstances that led to the attack.
He urged parents to remain vigilant by closely monitoring their children’s activities and reminded students to exercise caution and stay alert, especially while traveling to and from school.
The school official also appealed to parents not to lose confidence in the Department of Education (DepEd) and school authorities, stressing that they remain committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of their students.
The DCPO continues its investigation to establish the motive behind the attack and determine any additional individuals who may have participated in the assault.
