PANTUKAN, Davao de Oro — What was supposed to be a day of celebration and achievement turned into a scene of violence after a newly graduated college student was shot outside a school campus shortly after a graduation ceremony in Pantukan, Davao de Oro on Thursday, June 25.

The victim, identified only as Rodney, had just completed his studies and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) Major in Home Economics from Kolehiyo ng Pantukan (KNP) in Barangay Kingking when he was attacked.

According to initial reports, the shooting occurred shortly after 12 noon, moments after the graduation rites had concluded. Witnesses said the victim was outside the school premises when unidentified assailant/s suddenly opened fire, striking him and causing injuries.

The gunfire shattered the festive atmosphere that had prevailed throughout the ceremony, sending graduates, parents, faculty members, and other attendees into panic as they scrambled for safety.

Rodney was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Authorities have yet to release detailed information regarding the extent of his injuries or his current condition.

Police investigators immediately responded to the scene and have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. Investigators are currently gathering witness statements, reviewing possible evidence, and pursuing leads that could identify the suspect or suspects involved.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive behind the shooting, and it remains unclear whether the victim was specifically targeted or if other factors may have contributed to the incident.

The brazen attack has raised concerns among residents and members of the academic community, particularly because it occurred in broad daylight and just outside an educational institution during a significant school event attended by hundreds of people.

Law enforcement officials assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible. They also appealed to witnesses and individuals with information about the incident to cooperate with investigators.

As of this writing, the Pantukan Municipal Police Station continues its investigation while the victim remains under medical care.

The shooting transformed what should have been a memorable milestone for a young graduate into a traumatic incident that has left the community seeking answers and justice.
