PARANG, Maguindanao del Norte — A lending collector was killed after being shot by still unidentified gunmen in Barangay Sarmiento, Parang, on Thursday morning, May 14.

The victim was identified by authorities as John Lagorra, also known by the alias “Janjan,” a resident of the area who worked as a collector for a lending business.

Based on the initial police investigation, the shooting incident happened at around 7:00 a.m. while the victim was reportedly conducting collection activities in the area.

Witnesses said the assailants suddenly opened fire at the victim, hitting him multiple times. Due to the severity of his gunshot wounds, Lagorra reportedly died on the spot before he could receive medical treatment.

The suspects immediately fled the scene after the attack, prompting responding police officers to launch a hot pursuit and follow-up operations.

Authorities quickly cordoned off the crime scene and began gathering evidence and testimonies from possible witnesses to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the killing.

Investigators are currently looking into several angles, including whether the attack was related to the victim’s line of work or if personal grudges may have been involved.

As of this writing, no suspects have been identified and no group has claimed responsibility for the fatal shooting.

Police assured the public that an ongoing investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
