A domestic dispute between two brothers turned fatal in Barangay Lanote, Isabela City on the evening of April 24, 2026, leaving both men dead in a tragedy that has raised more questions than answers, authorities said.
The victim, identified only as “Alex,” 36, single, sustained a fatal stab wound to the lower chest and was declared dead on arrival at the Basilan Medical Center.
His younger brother, “Fai,” 35, married and a resident of the same barangay, was arrested at the scene. However, while detained at the Isabela City Police Station, he reportedly suffered a medical emergency and later died inside his cell.
Police said the incident occurred at around 9:20 p.m., with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel arriving within six minutes of receiving a distress call. Officers found the victim lying on the ground while the suspect remained at the scene. Both were rushed to the hospital, but only the suspect initially survived.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had been drinking at his residence when the victim arrived and initiated a confrontation. The altercation escalated when the victim allegedly choked the suspect, prompting him to grab a knife and stab his brother.
Lt. Col. Wilfredo Palamos, chief of the Isabela City Police Station, confirmed the response and stressed that alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
“Our personnel responded promptly and ensured that both individuals were brought to the hospital. Unfortunately, the victim was declared dead on arrival,” Palamos said.
However, as the investigation continues, authorities admitted that the exact cause of the conflict remains unclear.
Investigators said there is still no confirmed motive behind the violent altercation. One of the angles being considered is a possible personal or family-related misunderstanding, but officials emphasized that this has yet to be validated.
