COTABATO CITY — A man alleged to be an active law enforcement officer was arrested in a coordinated entrapment operation conducted by the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (RACU-BAR) and Cotabato City Police Station 2 on charges of sextortion.
The suspect, identified only by his alias Ron, 37, married and a resident of Rosary Heights 1, Cotabato City, was apprehended inside a hotel in Rosary Heights 11 past 8:00 p.m. following a complaint from a victim who requested anonymity under the name Ana.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly threatened to release sensitive videos and photos of the victim unless she agreed to engage in sexual acts with him. The victim immediately reported the threats to RACU-BAR, prompting the swift entrapment operation.
During the arrest, the suspect reportedly resisted, leading to a brief commotion inside the hotel, which was quickly controlled by the police. Authorities recovered from his possession two condoms, cash used in the entrapment, various identification cards, an ATM card, and a .45 caliber pistol loaded with five rounds.
The suspect is currently under the custody of Cotabato City Police Station 2, where charges for violations of Republic Act 9995, or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 are being prepared for filing.
Police authorities emphasized their commitment to protecting victims of cybercrimes and called on anyone experiencing similar threats to report immediately.
