DAPA, Surigao del Norte — In a successful joint operation early this morning, police operatives from the Dapa Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the Bureau of Corrections Regional Special Escorting (BUCOR RSEC) Team, apprehended a fugitive who recently escaped from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm.

The arrest, carried out around 3:35 a.m. in Barangay Union, Dapa, was part of intensified manhunt operations under the directive of Surigao del Norte Provincial Director, Police Colonel Warren E. Dablo. The captured escapee is a 53-year-old male, single, and a resident of Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City.

According to police reports, the person deprived of liberty (PDL) was convicted for Robbery with Homicide under Criminal Case No. 169, issued by RTC Branch 43 in Tanjay City on May 30, 2012. He had been serving his sentence at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Barangay Panabo, Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte.

The PDL was transferred to Tagum General Hospital on May 22, 2025, for medical treatment. However, he managed to escape custody at around 10:00 p.m. on June 3. He was later tracked to Barangay Union in Dapa, where he had been hiding until his arrest on June 5.

“Surigao del Norte Police successfully apprehended the escapee without incident, following a series of targeted intelligence operations across the province. This coordinated effort underscores our steadfast commitment to public safety and highlights the effectiveness of collaboration, intelligence-sharing, and decisive law enforcement action in upholding the rule of law,” said PCOL Dablo in a statement.

The fugitive is currently under the custody of the Dapa Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and further legal proceedings.
