TUBOD, Lanao del Norte — Livestock farmers from 46 barangays across Lanao del Norte gathered at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium for the Provincial Livestock Farmers’ Congress, a major event reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to agricultural development and farmer empowerment.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo, the congress was a platform to recognize farmers’ crucial role in the local economy and to promote sustainable agriculture throughout the province.

The event was organized by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) and carried the theme “Ang DFIEP alang sa Katawhan para Dugang Panginabuhian.” A major highlight was the presentation of the Dimaporo Farmers’ Income Enhancement Program (DFIEP)—a livelihood initiative initially conceptualized by the late Congressman Abdullah D. Dimaporo. DFIEP aims to reduce poverty and provide long-term support to livestock farmers by enhancing productivity and income generation.

In her keynote address, Governor Dimaporo expressed heartfelt appreciation to the farming community. “Nalipay ko’g dako nga ang produkto ani, mao napo’y ihatag sa bag-o na beneficiaries. Kami dinhi sa probinsya naningkamot gayud kami og unsaon pagtabang ang atong mga kaigsuonan labaw na sa panginabuhi,” she said, assuring farmers that the provincial government will continue to expand and strengthen DFIEP to reach more beneficiaries and address persistent challenges.

Various government and private stakeholders also shared updates and technical guidance to support livestock farmers.

Mr. Bryan Tampos of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) urged farmers to avail themselves of agricultural insurance, which serves as a risk management tool to mitigate losses from natural disasters and crop failures.

Fe Emelda C. Academia, Senior Science Research Specialist at the Philippine Carabao Center – Mindanao Livestock Production Center, discussed new advancements in the Carabao Development Program, which aims to improve carabao genetics and promote their productive use in agriculture and livelihood.

Dr. Rhea Villa R. Chiu of the Department of Agriculture – Region 10 (DA-10) stressed the need to tackle Emerging and Re-emerging Transboundary Animal Diseases. She emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to protect animal health and rural livelihoods.

Dr. Dale Franco B. Elentic, Regional Veterinary Quarantine Officer, presented updated protocols on transporting animals and animal products, highlighting the importance of adhering to veterinary quarantine regulations to prevent disease outbreaks.

Rounding out the event, Mr. Nelson Sarnilin of UNAHCO gave a talk titled “Partnering for Progress: How Animal Health and Feed Companies Support Local Livestock Development.” He emphasized the value of partnerships between farmers and the private sector in ensuring access to quality animal health products and feeds, which are vital to boosting livestock productivity.

The congress demonstrated a shared commitment among local leaders, government agencies, and private stakeholders to strengthen the province’s livestock industry and ensure a more resilient, food-secure future for farming communities.
