CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental — The 58th Infantry “Dimalulupig” Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Leoncito I. Grezula Jr., recovered skeletal remains in Sitio Victory, Barangay San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon, on April 26, 2025, following a tip-off during a Community Peace Dialogue.
The dialogue, facilitated by the Mobile Community Sustainment Support Team (MCSST), provided an opportunity for residents to raise concerns. A concerned local disclosed the site of a possible burial, prompting the soldiers to launch a recovery operation. Upon reaching the area, troops exhumed skeletal remains along with personal belongings such as a flashlight, hammock (duyan), machete (sundang), and other materials.
According to the 58th IB, the operation was carried out with full respect for human dignity. The remains are now undergoing identification and further investigation to determine the individual’s identity and the circumstances surrounding their death.
A dignified burial will follow, to be led by the local community priest and accompanied by a traditional ritual performed by the Higaonon Tribe, in honor of the deceased and the significance of their ancestral land.
Lt. Col. Grezula commended the community’s involvement, noting that the recovery operation was a testament to the growing trust between local residents and government forces.
“The successful recovery of the skeletal remains and the information coming from the locals highlights the trust and collaboration we continue to build with the communities that were once infiltrated by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG). We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting peace, supporting the healing process, and assisting former rebels in their reintegration into society,” he said.
The 58th IB assured continued support for the peace and development efforts in the area, with a focus on reconciliation and long-term stability.
