TUBOD, Lanao del Norte — In celebration of Earth Day, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, through its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), released one Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) and three Philippine Long-Tailed Macaques (Macaca fascicularis) back into the wild on April 22, 2025, as part of its ongoing wildlife conservation efforts.

The Brahminy Kite was freed from its cage in front of the ENRO office in Tubod, symbolizing a hopeful return to its natural habitat. Later that day, the three Philippine Long-Tailed Macaques were released into the forested area of Mt. Torong-Torong in Barangay Kakai Renabor, where they are expected to thrive.

These animals were previously rescued from civilian captivity and rehabilitated under ENRO’s care. Following a period of monitoring, they were found fit to be returned to the wild. The activity is in line with the implementation of Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

Officials from ENRO, along with personnel from the Maritime Police Station–Lanao del Norte, facilitated the release to ensure the animals’ safe transition. The event highlights the province’s ongoing efforts to protect native species and raise awareness about the importance of preserving wildlife and the negative impacts of illegal animal captivity.
