DAVAO CITY, Philippines —

The Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified its campaign against smuggling and economic sabotage after a successful anti-smuggling operation in Davao City on June 11, 2026, resulting in the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of illegally traded goods valued at more than ₱3.14 million.

The operation was conducted through the coordinated efforts of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and local police units as part of the PNP’s sustained drive to curb the manufacture, distribution, and sale of improperly documented commercial products in the market.

Authorities said the operation supports the PNP’s Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, aligned with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen enforcement against smuggling and other forms of economic sabotage.

Entrapment Operation Conducted in Davao City

Operatives carried out an entrapment operation at a facility located at the corner of Monteverde and Bangoy Streets in Davao City. During the raid, authorities arrested a Filipino male suspect after discovering large quantities of palm oil and coconut oil products, along with empty storage tanks, weighing scales, and other equipment allegedly used in the illegal operation.

Investigators estimated the total value of the seized items at ₱3,148,200.00.

The suspect and all recovered evidence were placed under the custody of the CIDG Davao City Field Unit for proper documentation, investigation, and case build-up.

PNP Chief Commends Swift Action

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. praised the operating units for their swift response and strong coordination in carrying out the operation.

“Ang mahalaga dito ay tuloy-tuloy ang ating operasyon at mabilis ang aksyon. These operations show that when agencies work together, we can immediately act against illegal activities. We will continue to be proactive on the ground,” Nartatez said.

He emphasized that the PNP remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening inter-agency cooperation to sustain gains in law enforcement.

Protecting Consumers and Legitimate Businesses

Authorities noted that smuggling and the illegal distribution of commercial products deprive the government of revenues and pose risks to public health and consumer safety, especially when products are manufactured, repackaged, or sold without proper regulatory oversight.

The Davao City operation highlights the PNP’s ongoing efforts to dismantle illicit supply chains and protect consumers and legitimate businesses from unfair and potentially dangerous trade practices.

The arrested suspect is expected to face appropriate charges for violations of existing laws and regulations following inquest proceedings as authorities continue investigating the extent of the illegal operation and possible accomplices.
