A potentially tragic maritime incident was averted after the Philippine Coast Guard Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Dapitan and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Dapitan successfully rescued three fishermen from a distressed fishing banca in the waters off Dapitan City.

According to authorities, the rescue operation was launched immediately after CGSS Dapitan received a distress call regarding a fishing banca that encountered trouble at sea amid rough and challenging water conditions.

In response, a joint rescue team composed of Coast Guard personnel and CDRRMO responders swiftly deployed aboard a Sea Ambulance from Barangay Talisay. Despite unfavorable sea conditions, responders pushed through with the operation, maintaining constant communication and coordination while navigating toward the reported location of the distressed vessel.

Through rapid response efforts and synchronized teamwork, the rescue team successfully located the fishing banca and safely rescued all three crew members onboard. Rescuers immediately secured the vessel by handing a towing rope to stabilize and guide the banca back to safety.

Upon arrival at Barangay Talisay, the rescued fishermen were promptly assisted and assessed to ensure their physical condition remained stable following the maritime ordeal.

Authorities confirmed that the operation concluded successfully, with all rescue personnel and fishermen safe and fully accounted for.

Officials said the incident once again underscored the importance of strong inter-agency coordination and rapid emergency response in protecting lives at sea, particularly amid unpredictable maritime conditions.

The successful operation also highlighted the continuing commitment of CGSS Dapitan and CDRRMO Dapitan in ensuring maritime safety and readiness for emergencies within the coastal waters of Dapitan City.

“At sea or on shore, we remain always ready to serve, respond, and protect lives,” the responders emphasized following the successful rescue mission.
