COTABATO CITY — A 65-year-old caretaker was shot dead by an unidentified assailant late Thursday night, April 30, in what police describe as a brazen attack in a residential area of Barangay Rosary Heights 11.

The victim, Mohammad Kamid Angkay, a married resident of Mabini Street in Bagua 3, was on his way to the Prince Pension House—where he reportedly worked as a caretaker—when he was ambushed around 9:15 p.m. in Purok Kamsa.
Initial police investigation revealed that Angkay was walking alone when a suspect, who appeared to have been tailing him, suddenly opened fire. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body, including at least one from behind, indicating he may not have had any chance to defend himself.
Responding units from Police Station 2 were alerted by the City Tactical Operations Center at around 9:20 p.m. and arrived at the scene minutes later, along with investigators and other security forces. However, Angkay had already been rushed by relatives to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Crime scene operatives recovered ballistic evidence, including spent shell casings and a slug believed to have come from a .45 caliber pistol—pointing to the use of a high-powered firearm in the killing.
Authorities said the gunman fled immediately after the shooting and remains unidentified. As of this writing, no motive has been established, leaving investigators to explore multiple angles, including personal grudges and possible work-related links.
Local police have intensified manhunt operations and are calling on witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The fatal shooting adds to growing concerns over nighttime security in parts of the city, particularly in residential zones where civilians remain vulnerable to sudden acts of violence.
