OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — In a sustained crackdown against illegal activities inside detention facilities, the Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Office (MOPPO) conducted a successful “Oplan Galugad/Greyhound” operation at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Reformatory Jail on Monday morning, May 11, 2026.

The operation, which began at 9:30 AM, was led by PLTCOL MARDY M. HORTILLOSA II, DPDA, under the direct supervision of Provincial Director PCOL REYNALDO M. MACLANG, MNSA. It was carried out in coordination with personnel from the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) and the Oroquieta City Police Station, led by PMAJ ADRIAN A. NALUA, OIC, and in close coordination with MOPRJ Warden Mr. Stephen Sean M. Daral.

Authorities said the coordinated raid is part of intensified efforts to eliminate contraband, strengthen internal security, and prevent the continued use of illegal items that could compromise order inside correctional facilities.

Massive haul of contraband uncovered

During the thorough search operation, law enforcement personnel recovered a significant volume of prohibited and unauthorized items, including communication devices, bladed weapons, and cash believed to be circulating within the detention environment.

Confiscated items include:

  • One (1) improvised tattoo marker with charger
  • Ten (10) Android cellphones
  • Three (3) keypad cellphones
  • Fifty-three (53) packs of assorted cigarette brands
  • Three (3) reams of assorted cigarettes
  • Three (3) sets of playing cards
  • Ten (10) improvised bladed weapons
  • Cash amounting to ₱58,795

Authorities emphasized that the presence of cellphones and improvised weapons inside a controlled facility poses serious security risks, including potential coordination of illegal activities outside the jail, threats of violence, and continued criminal operations behind bars.

Strengthening jail security and intelligence monitoring

The Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Office said the operation underscores its continuing commitment to safeguard Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), jail personnel, and the general public.

Officials stressed that contraband such as communication gadgets and edged weapons not only violate jail regulations but also undermine rehabilitation efforts and institutional discipline.

“The objective of the operation is to ensure that detention facilities remain secure, orderly, and free from illegal influence,” authorities noted, adding that similar operations will continue as part of a broader intelligence-driven enforcement strategy.

PNP vows sustained crackdown

The Philippine National Police reiterated its firm stance against the proliferation of contraband in detention centers, stressing that Greyhound operations and intelligence monitoring will be intensified across facilities in the province.

Officials also assured the public that continuous inspections and surprise searches will remain part of routine law enforcement measures to prevent the resurgence of illegal activities inside correctional institutions.

“This is part of our unwavering mission to maintain peace, discipline, and security not only within detention facilities but also in the wider community,” the PNP emphasized.

The successful operation marks another step in the province’s ongoing campaign to tighten control over jail security and eliminate the flow of prohibited items that threaten institutional order.
