MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — Authorities are investigating the death of a 78-year-old man whose lifeless body was discovered in a forested area in Barangay Silae on March 24, 2026, under circumstances that suggest possible foul play.

According to police reports, the victim had earlier left home to gather firewood in the nearby mountainous area but failed to return, prompting concern from his wife. When he remained missing, his wife alerted authorities, leading to a search that eventually resulted in the grim discovery of his body.

Initial examination revealed that the elderly man sustained two visible wounds believed to have been inflicted by a still unidentified sharp object. The nature of the injuries has raised suspicions among investigators, who are now working to determine whether the incident was accidental or a case of homicide.

The victim’s remains were first brought to the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center in Barangay Casisang before being transferred to Villanueva Funeral Homes for further examination. Police have strongly urged the victim’s family to consent to a full autopsy to establish the exact cause of death and to aid in the progress of the investigation.

As of this writing, authorities have yet to identify any suspects or establish a clear motive. Police continue to gather evidence and are calling on anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about the safety of residents venturing into remote and mountainous areas, particularly the elderly, as authorities intensify efforts to uncover the truth behind the man’s death.
