A dispatcher was shot dead by an unidentified gunman Monday afternoon, March 16, in a residential area in Cotabato City, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Norhamin Agar, also known as Hamin Agar, an adult resident of Conception Street in Mother Barangay Tamontaka.

According to initial police reports, the fatal shooting occurred at around 4:42 p.m. in Sitio Upper Bobong, Kalanganan 2, where Agar had reportedly gone to visit friends.

Investigators said the victim was allegedly followed by the suspect, who suddenly opened fire and repeatedly shot him. Agar sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the face, chest, and hand, resulting in his instant death.

Responding authorities from Police Station 3 conducted a crime scene investigation and recovered eight empty bullet casings believed to be from a 9mm firearm.

The suspect immediately fled the scene after the attack aboard a motorcycle that has yet to be identified, police said.

Possible Motive Under Investigation

Initial findings from the Philippine National Police indicate that the shooting may be linked to a long-standing personal dispute.

Police revealed that the victim had previously been suspected in a killing incident in 2022. In addition, an individual had recently filed a complaint against Agar on March 7, 2026, alleging physical assault.

Authorities are currently examining whether these past incidents may have played a role in the attack.

Family Claims Remains

Following the incident, Agar’s family immediately claimed his remains for burial, in accordance with Islamic burial traditions, which require prompt interment.

Meanwhile, police have launched follow-up operations to identify and arrest the suspect, as investigators continue to gather evidence and interview possible witnesses.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting to coordinate with local police to help bring the perpetrator to justice.
