CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — As fuel prices continue to climb across the Philippines, many motorists are finding that every trip now requires careful planning to avoid draining already stretched household budgets. For one web developer in Northern Mindanao, the challenge inspired a practical digital solution aimed at helping drivers calculate their travel costs before even starting the engine.

Harry, a Cagayan de Oro–based web developer, recently launched TripWorth, a web application designed to help motorists estimate fuel consumption and travel expenses ahead of any journey.

The idea, he said, came from a problem that many drivers face daily — uncertainty about how much fuel a trip will consume and whether the budget they prepared will be enough.

“Most of the time, before traveling, we just make rough estimates about whether our budget is enough or how much we might actually spend,” Harry explained. “That made me think, why isn’t there a simple tool people can use before leaving so they can prepare better?”

With fuel prices fluctuating week after week, the need for accurate travel planning has become increasingly important for drivers, riders, delivery workers, and even families planning weekend trips. What used to be a simple drive across the city can now carry a significant cost.

TripWorth aims to simplify that planning process.

Through the app, users can enter their starting location and destination, and the system will generate key travel estimates including the distance of the trip, expected fuel consumption, and the estimated total fuel cost based on the vehicle’s fuel efficiency and the current price of fuel.

The platform also features an AI Trip Analysis tool that provides additional insights into the journey. Guest users are allowed three free analyses, while those who register can access unlimited trip analyses for three months.

Designed with simplicity in mind, the app does not require complex steps to use. Motorists only need to visit https://tripworth.app, input their departure and destination points, select their vehicle type or manually enter their kilometers-per-liter fuel efficiency, and type in the current fuel price.

For registered users, the app also includes a feature that can automatically detect the nearest gas station based on the departure area, allowing drivers to factor in local fuel prices as they plan their trip.

Harry said TripWorth was never intended to be just another tech project, but rather a practical everyday tool for Filipinos who are increasingly affected by rising fuel costs.

“Even in a simple way, it can already be a big help if people know their possible fuel cost before traveling,” he said. “It helps them prepare better, save more, and budget more wisely.”

In a time when transportation expenses are becoming a growing concern for many households, innovations like TripWorth reflect how local developers are responding to real-world challenges with practical digital solutions.

For now, Harry is inviting feedback from motorists who try the platform, hoping it will continue to improve and become a useful companion for both daily commutes and long-distance travel.

Built through local effort and creativity, TripWorth is a homegrown digital tool — made with heart in Cagayan de Oro — designed to help every kilometer count.
