BAGUMBAYAN, Sultan Kudarat — A specialized unit of the Philippine Army has successfully carried out a controlled disposal of dangerous explosive materials in Barangay Daguma, Bagumbayan, preventing potential threats to civilians and restoring safety in the area.

The operation was led by Major Richard P. Tibayan, Commanding Officer of the 3rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company (3EODC), and Captain Vismin S. Legada, Platoon Leader of the 1st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Platoon (1EODP). The team conducted a disposal-by-detonation procedure involving confiscated, captured, surrendered, and recovered (CCSR) ammunition, as well as unexploded ordnance (UXO), improvised explosive devices (IEDs), mortar rounds, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), rifle grenades, and assorted IED components.

Authorities said the explosive materials were previously recovered by various units of the 6th Infantry Division, Philippine Army during security operations in Central Mindanao.

According to the Army, the disposal activity was carried out in strict adherence to established EOD safety standards and security protocols. Prior to the detonation, extensive coordination was conducted with the local government unit, the Philippine National Police, and nearby communities to ensure the safety of residents and the integrity of the disposal site.

“The operation was executed without any untoward incident, reflecting the high level of professionalism, discipline, and operational readiness of our EOD personnel,” the Army said in a statement.

Officials emphasized that the timely destruction of the explosives significantly reduced the risk of accidental detonation, which could have endangered both civilians and security forces. The removal of these hazards also allowed residents to safely resume farming and other daily activities in nearby farmlands and public spaces.

Security officials noted that the operation also denied armed and threat groups access to potentially deadly materials that could have been used for criminal or terrorist activities.

“The successful disposal restored a sense of safety and normalcy in the community and strengthened public trust in government security forces,” the Army added.

The Philippine Army reiterated its commitment to neutralizing explosive threats, maintaining peace and order, and ensuring public safety through effective EOD operations and strong inter-agency cooperation. The military said similar efforts will continue as part of its broader mission to secure communities and support long-term stability in Central Mindanao.
