A long-standing rido between the Idjas and Hassan families from the municipalities of Talipao and Patikul was peacefully settled on February 2, marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to restore harmony and stability in conflict-affected communities.

The successful reconciliation was supported by the Philippine Army’s 41st Infantry “Partner for Peace” Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Genesis R. Gabrido (GSC) INF PA, in close coordination with local leaders, traditional elders, and other key stakeholders. The initiative underscored the Army’s vital role in peacebuilding—going beyond security operations to actively prevent violence through dialogue and mediation.
Brigadier General Emmanuel L. Cabasan PA, Commander of the 1103rd Infantry (Kalis) Brigade, stressed that resolving clan feuds through lawful and peaceful means is essential to preventing the escalation of violence and protecting civilian lives. He highlighted reconciliation and mutual understanding as the cornerstones of sustainable peace, particularly in areas where rido has historically fueled cycles of retaliation and insecurity.
“This settlement reflects the strength of collaboration among the military, local government units, community elders, and families themselves,” Brig. Gen. Cabasan said. “Peace is achieved not by force, but by shared responsibility, respect for the rule of law, and genuine commitment to reconciliation.”
Rido has long been a source of instability in parts of Talipao and Patikul, often disrupting livelihoods, education, and social cohesion. The settlement between the Idjas and Hassan families not only ends hostilities but also paves the way for healing, renewed cooperation, and community development.
The 41st Infantry Partner for Peace Battalion reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to sustaining peace initiatives, strengthening community partnerships, and safeguarding unity. Through continuous engagement and support for reconciliation efforts, the battalion reinforces its role as a trusted partner for peace and a protector of the people—helping ensure that dialogue triumphs over division and that lasting peace takes root in Talipao and Patikul.
