The victim, identified as Nenita Calgas Bulay, a widow and local vendor, was attacked while on her way home from the market. Eyewitnesses reported that Bulay, accompanied by her nephew, was approached near a hanging bridge when the suspect, a 26-year-old farmer identified as Jeno Mendoza Ansocot, suddenly attacked her with a sharp knife.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the Bayog Municipal Police Station (MPS), the suspect stabbed Bulay four times in the head, inflicting fatal injuries.
