DAVAO REGION — Authorities are racing to locate a recreational motor banca reported missing with 15 people on board after it failed to reach its destination in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed on January 19, 2026.

The vessel, MBCA Amejara, was reported missing at around 7:13 p.m. According to the PCG, the banca departed Sta. Ana Wharf, Davao City at approximately 5:20 p.m. and was expected to arrive in Governor Generoso later that evening.

However, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Governor Generoso disclosed that the boat proceeded to sea without PCG clearance. Duty personnel had not authorized the voyage because the vessel lacked a permit from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), yet it continued sailing.

Last Sighting and Ongoing Coordination

The banca was last sighted at around 3:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, heightening concerns as night fell. The PCG has activated coordination among its sub-stations in Sta. Ana and Governor Generoso, while nearby maritime units have been alerted to monitor the area and gather information.
