INDANAN, Sulu — A long-standing dispute between residents of Barangay Katian and Barangay Tumantangis was peacefully resolved on December 30, 2025, following a successful mediation that underscored the power of dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility in building lasting peace.

The amicable settlement marked a major breakthrough for the Municipality of Indanan, as local government leaders and security forces worked hand in hand to prevent further conflict and restore harmony between the two communities. The mediation was spearheaded by the Office of the Municipal Mayor under the leadership of Hon. Albakil “Thong” Jikiri and represented during the proceedings by Hon. Franco Asiri, Officer-in-Charge of the Municipality of Indanan, in close coordination with the 100th Infantry (Kalasag) Battalion led by Lieutenant Colonel Samuel M. Bayongasan.
Local officials described the settlement as a clear demonstration of the local government’s firm commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful and inclusive means rather than allowing tensions to escalate into violence. By bringing both parties to the table, the mediation created a safe space for grievances to be aired, misunderstandings clarified, and common ground established.
During the dialogue, Hon. Alano Palahuddin emphasized that conflicts, no matter how deep-rooted, can be resolved through understanding, cooperation, and mutual respect. He stressed that unity at the community level is essential for sustainable development and social stability, especially in areas historically affected by disputes.
For his part, LTC Bayongasan highlighted the crucial role of trust and open communication in fostering resilient communities. He noted that peace is not solely the responsibility of security forces but a shared duty of leaders and citizens alike, built through continuous engagement and respect for one another.
The successful settlement was met with optimism from both parties, who expressed their willingness to move forward and uphold the agreement in the interest of peace, safety, and progress. Community leaders also echoed hopes that the resolution would serve as an example for other barangays facing similar challenges.
As Indanan continues its journey toward stability and development, the peaceful resolution between Barangays Katian and Tumantangis stands as a powerful reminder that unity and dialogue remain the strongest foundations of peace.
