DAVAO CITY — Police rescued two teenage students and seized an estimated ₱372,000 worth of suspected marijuana during a drug buy-bust operation in Purok 15, Barangay 5-A on Tuesday morning, December 2.
One of the rescued minors, known only as “Dang,” 16, a resident of San Pedro Extension, has been tagged by authorities as Regional Priority Target No. 4 for illegal drugs. The second minor, identified as “Kaloy,” 17, resides in Beverly Hills, Upper Exodus, Barangay 8-A, Davao City.
According to police reports, operatives from the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Davao City Police Office, in coordination with the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit XI (RPDEU-XI) and the Sta. Ana Police Station, launched the operation at around 11:15 a.m. after confirming the minors’ alleged involvement in marijuana selling.
During the sting, authorities were able to purchase suspected marijuana from the two students. A subsequent search led to the recovery of additional items, including several packets of dried marijuana and one brick of suspected marijuana wrapped in plastic cellophane.
Police emphasized that while the minors were found in possession of illegal drugs, they were immediately rescued and turned over to child welfare authorities as mandated by law. Appropriate interventions will be coordinated with the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Authorities are now investigating how the minors became involved in the illegal drug trade, as the case highlights growing concerns over the exploitation of youth by drug networks in the city.
