Authorities in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon uprooted around 150 fully grown marijuana plants on Monday morning, December 1, 2025—an operation made slightly unbelievable by the fact that the plantation was discovered right behind the municipal tourism office, tucked away in a remote, bushy portion of Purok 9, Poblacion.

Police Major Dominador Orate of the Impasug-ong Municipal Drug Enforcement Unit said the area was surprisingly large, accessible only by weaving through thick vegetation. The discovery was made after a woman reported her live-in partner, who she claimed had been tending to the illegal garden for quite some time.

According to the woman, she had no idea the plants were marijuana, insisting she thought they were just “mixed in with the vegetables.” She added that her partner recently harvested and sold a sack for ₱30,000—but clarified she never received a single peso from the transaction.

The suspect, meanwhile, managed to escape when authorities approached the site and is still on the run. Police say he will face appropriate charges, with his live-in partner ready to testify against him—even if doing so means turning in the man she once trusted with their backyard garden.

All confiscated marijuana plants have been transported by authorities for proper disposal—marking the end of what may be the least intentional “tourist attraction” ever found behind a tourism office.
