KITAOTAO, BUKIDNON — October 24, 2025. A new chapter of hope and progress unfolded for the Matigsalug Indigenous Peoples (IP) community in Barangay Napalico (Lorega), Kitaotao, Bukidnon, as the Matigsalug IP Village was officially turned over in a ceremony that celebrated unity, peace, and sustainable development.
The project, spearheaded by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kitaotao under the leadership of Mayor Edwin P. Abucayan, was made possible through the support of the National Housing Authority (NHA). It stands as a concrete manifestation of the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and peacebuilding, providing safe and decent homes for 36 Matigsalug families and nine (9) Former Rebels (FRs).
Mayor Abucayan lauded the collaborative efforts that brought the project to fruition, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the municipality’s vision of empowering Indigenous and conflict-affected communities through inclusive and sustainable development.
The ceremony was graced by Lieutenant Colonel Antonio G. Bulao I, Commanding Officer of the 89th Infantry (MAKATAO) Battalion, together with Captain Christian Rumbaoa, Operations Officer, and Captain Sidrac C. Alicog, Charlie Company Commander. Their presence underscored the continuing partnership between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and local stakeholders in advancing peace and stability in the region.
The turnover event also symbolized the government’s dedication to reintegration and nation-building efforts, particularly in areas once affected by armed conflict. Through initiatives like the Matigsalug IP Village, the AFP and LGU Kitaotao aim to strengthen community resilience, promote livelihood opportunities, and foster harmony among Indigenous Peoples and former combatants.
The 89th Infantry Battalion reaffirmed its commitment to supporting IP and FR communities through ongoing peace and development programs that uphold cooperation, self-reliance, and social transformation.
The successful turnover of the Matigsalug IP Village stands as a beacon of hope — a testament to what unity between government, security forces, and local communities can achieve in the pursuit of lasting peace and inclusive progress in Bukidnon.
