MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – October 14, 2025 — Government troops successfully recovered a cache of firearms in the mountains of Bukidnon following the joint efforts of several Army units and the cooperation of a former rebel who surrendered earlier this year.

According to the Philippine Army, soldiers from the 8th Infantry (Dependable) Battalion, in collaboration with the 1st Special Forces Battalion, 44th Division Reconnaissance Company (44DRC), and intelligence units, unearthed one (1) AK-47 rifle with a defaced serial number and five (5) magazines in Mt. Kiamo, Barangay Kibalabag, Malaybalay City.

The recovery operation was made possible through information provided by a former member of the Regional Sentro de Grabidad (RSDG) Compaq under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA). The former rebel had earlier surrendered to the 8th Infantry Battalion, which operates under the 403rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade.

Lieutenant Colonel Jeorge R. Jallorina, Acting Commanding Officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion, underscored the vital role of community cooperation and former rebels in the success of peace initiatives.

“This accomplishment is a clear testament to the growing trust and cooperation of our brothers and sisters who have returned to the folds of the law,” Lt. Col. Jallorina said. “Their willingness to share vital information is crucial in preventing the remaining CPP-NPA members from launching further hostile acts. With the help of our people and partner agencies, we can achieve genuine peace and development in Bukidnon.”

The 8th Infantry Battalion reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace and development in Bukidnon, vowing to continue its close coordination with local government units and communities to end local armed conflict.

Meanwhile, Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, lauded the troops and the former rebel for their collaboration. He emphasized that the recovery operation demonstrated the strong partnership between the Army and the people.

“Through continued cooperation and information sharing, we can effectively end local armed conflict and sustain the gains of peace and development in Northern Mindanao and Caraga Regions,” Maj. Gen. Anayron said.

Authorities assured that the recovered firearm and magazines are now in military custody for proper documentation and disposition.
