MAWAB, Davao de Oro – A heated argument between a couple turned deadly after a reportedly intoxicated husband set fire to their home in Barangay Nuevo Iloco, Mawab, Davao de Oro, on the afternoon of October 23, 2025.
Police reports from the Davao de Oro Provincial Police Office revealed that the suspect, who was allegedly drunk, had a confrontation with his wife before suddenly grabbing a container of gasoline. In a fit of rage, he poured the fuel inside their bedroom, brought in an LPG tank, and ignited it with a match. The explosion quickly engulfed the entire house in flames.
Responding teams from the Mawab Police Station and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately arrived at the scene, while personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Mawab managed to put out the fire before it could spread to nearby houses.
The husband sustained third-degree burns all over his body and was rushed to the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital in Montevista, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities estimated the total damage from the incident at around ₱600,000. Investigators confirmed that the blaze was caused by the suspect’s deliberate act following a domestic quarrel.
The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of how alcohol-induced rage and unresolved domestic disputes can lead to irreversible loss and devastation.
