A seven-year-old boy lost his life after being attacked by a venomous King Cobra (banakon) in Purok 4, Sitio Libertad, Barangay Malinawon, Mawab, Davao de Oro, around 2:00 p.m. on October 9, 2025.

The victim, identified as Wilsy James Relampagos, was with his mother at their farm when the tragic incident occurred. According to his mother, the child ran to her crying for help and told her that a large King Cobra had bitten him multiple times. Before losing consciousness, the boy even managed to warn his mother not to pass through the same area where he was attacked.

Responders from the MDRRMO Mawab’s Quick Response Team immediately rushed to the scene and brought the victim to the nearest hospital. Despite their swift response, the young boy was declared dead on arrival due to multiple snake bites.

Following the heartbreaking incident, MDRRMO Mawab issued a strong reminder to residents—especially those living and farming in far-flung and forested areas—to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against venomous animals such as snakes.

The MDRRMO advises the public to:

  • Wear protective clothing, such as thick pants and rubber boots, when going to farms, grasslands, or forested areas.
  • Avoid known snake habitats, especially thick undergrowth or piles of debris.
  • Stay calm and seek immediate medical help if bitten by a venomous animal.
  • Call the MDRRMO emergency hotline for urgent response and assistance.

“The safety of everyone remains our top priority,” the MDRRMO said, extending its deepest condolences to the family of young Wilsy.
