GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Three siblings, including two minors, were rescued by barangay tanods in Barangay Sinawal after they sought help past midnight when their uncle allegedly assaulted and threatened them with a knife on Monday, October 27.
According to initial reports, the incident happened around 12:00 midnight when the suspect, identified only as alias Nono, 42, a construction worker from Tupi, South Cotabato, went on a drunken rampage and attacked his three nephews aged 19, 15, and 12. One of the victims was reportedly punched, while another was threatened with a bladed weapon.
Witnesses said the suspect had repeatedly hurt the victims whenever he was under the influence of alcohol. This time, the frightened siblings managed to flee and seek help from barangay officials, prompting an immediate response from the Sinawal tanods.
When responders arrived, the suspect had already fled, but he returned home around 4:00 a.m. The barangay tanods immediately launched a follow-up operation and arrested him after a brief chase.
The rescued siblings are now under the care of barangay authorities, who are assisting them in filing the appropriate charges against their uncle.
The suspect is currently detained at the Makar Police Station while facing possible charges for physical injury, child abuse, and threats.
Authorities remind the public to report cases of domestic abuse and ensure that children are protected from violence, especially within their own families.
