SULTAN SA BARONGIS, Maguindanao del Sur — Several loose firearms were formally turned over to the government through the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Program facilitated by the 2nd Mechanized Infantry “Makasag” Battalion, Armor Division, Philippine Army, in partnership with the local government of Sultan sa Barongis (SSB).

Among the surrendered firearms were a Garand rifle, three fabricated Ingram Uzi, a fabricated Barrett, and a fabricated grenade launcher.

The event was highlighted by messages of support from Sultan sa Barongis Mayor Allandatu Mamalo Angas Sr. and Brig. Gen. Omar V. Orozco, Commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade. Their statements emphasized the importance of cooperation between local government units, communities, and security forces in addressing the issue of unregistered and illegally manufactured firearms.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Lt. Col. Felmax B. Lodriguito Jr., Commanding Officer of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, who reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining peace and order in the province.

Officials said the initiative reflects the continuing joint efforts of government and communities to curb the proliferation of loose firearms, reduce armed violence, and foster safer, more peaceful communities in Maguindanao.
