PAGALUNGAN, Maguindanao del Sur – The three-year land dispute between two groups in Barangay Kilangan has been peacefully resolved through a dialogue led by the local government of Pagalungan under the leadership of Mayor Datu Abdillah “Ab’s” Mamasabulod and Vice Mayor Datu Mohamiden “Ton-Ton” Mamasabulod, in close coordination with the provincial government, Philippine National Police (PNP), the military, and other community stakeholders.
The conflict, which stemmed from a 20-hectare parcel of land and had previously claimed lives from both sides, involved Barangay Kagawad Jackson Matalam and the group known as the “Four Brothers” led by Candao Guailil. After years of tension, the parties finally agreed to a settlement that upholds peace and reconciliation in the community.
During the rido (clan feud) settlement, both groups shook hands and exchanged smiles, marking a new beginning for Barangay Kilangan residents. Matalam was assured of rightful use of his land, while Guailil’s group pledged to respect and comply with all agreed terms. The settlement also includes sanctions should either party fail to honor the agreement.
The resolution concluded with prayers and a traditional kanduli (thanksgiving feast), symbolizing unity and hope for lasting peace.
Mayor Mamasabulod expressed gratitude to the parties for choosing dialogue over conflict, emphasizing that peace is a vital foundation for community progress. The PNP and the military, meanwhile, expressed optimism that both groups will faithfully uphold the agreement to ensure stability in the barangay.
With the dispute settled, the local government looks forward to sustained development and a more prosperous life for families in Barangay Kilangan, putting an end to years of violence and mistrust.
