Cotabato City — After months of strained relations, the rift between two local chief executives—Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur Mayor Raida Bansil-Maglangit and Matanog, Maguindanao del Norte Mayor Zohria Bansil-Guro—has finally come to an end through the mediation of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua.

The reconciliation, held on September 13, was warmly welcomed by their families, friends, and constituents, who expressed relief that the mayors, who are sisters by blood and public service, had resolved their differences.

“Alhamdulillah! I was given the chance to help restore unity between sisters in blood and in leadership,” Chief Minister Macacua said. He also emphasized the importance of solidarity in Islam, quoting the Qur’an: “The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” (Surah Al-Hujurat 49:10).

The reconciliation was seen as a meaningful step in strengthening ties not only within the Bansil family but also in promoting unity across their communities.

“In every reconciliation, we find strength. In every act of peace, we build a Mas Matatag na Bangsamoro,” Macacua added.

Supporters and local leaders lauded the initiative, noting that unity among leaders sets a vital example for the people they serve, especially in fostering peace and cooperation in the Bangsamoro region.
